The Jordan River connects the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea. This resource includes footage of the river near Qasr-El-Yehud, on the western bank about 10km east of Jericho, traditionally held to be the site where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. This is also believed to be the place where the Children of Israel crossed the Jordan and entered the Promised Land after their 40 years of wandering in the desert. Elijah’s ascension to heaven in a fiery chariot after he and Elisa crossed the Jordan is also attributed to this site.
