Date: Thursday, June 22, 2023 | 9am – 12pm

Hosts: Church of the Resurrection’s ShareChurch Ministry

Join Resurrection’s Adult Discipleship team as they share the fruit of two years of research, experimentation, and practice in a new take on small group ministry that seeks to rethink the experience of small groups and refocus the life of the church on this critical component of Christian faith. Informed by psychology, theology, and sociology, this new (and highly doable) approach will help any size church put an effective and relevant model for small group ministry into practice. And, it’s easily learned and implemented!

This online training takes place from 9am-12pm Central Time, with 3 sessions focusing on different aspects of implementing this new approach to small groups in your congregation. Learn more in Session Descriptions.

Session Descriptions:

Getting on the Small Group Boat

Led by:

How do we ensure we are making the small group journey accessible? This first session will focus on removing as many barriers as possible and giving people every opportunity to say yes to the small group journey.

Where is the Small Group Boat Going?

Led by:

The goal of Christian small groups is personal transformation into the image of Christ. While that journey is ongoing, the path must be intentional – with stated goals, mile markers, and expectations from the outset. Small groups are simply better when there is a destination in mind.

How to Sail the Small Group Boat

Led by:

Small group ministries must adapt as people become increasingly shaped by isolation, technology, and a lack of civic engagement. In this session, you’ll learn tools for leading people into healthier social and conversational habits that help set groups up for quality discipleship.

Redefining our Congregation: Care as an Outreach Opportunity

Led by: Anne Gatobu and Claire Clough

Justin Schoolcraft

Leawood Small Groups & Young Adult Program Director

Justin is a Provisional Deacon in the United Methodist Church. He joined Resurrection’s pastoral staff in July of 2019. He loves the day-to-day work of being involved with people and receives joy from helping them come to recognize the movement of God in their lives. In his work with small groups and young adults, Justin’s passion is creating a culture of community where everybody feels like they belong.

Justin grew up in Charleston, West Virginia. He attended Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, where he studied religion. He received a Master of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology at Emory University. His time at Candler led him to prison chaplaincy, student pastor assignments, and countless trivia night defeats all over the city of Atlanta. For fun, Justin loves playing several instruments, rooting for the West Virginia Mountaineers, and being as active as possible.

What People Are Saying

Thank you from a pastor in a rural town who truly appreciates the resources you are offering. Your resources lifted a load from my shoulders in a time when I needed one lifted. Thank you for your kindness; this pastor appreciates it. God bless you.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  We are shifting so much to meet the needs of our community during this time that we have really been stretching our staff resources.  I am so grateful for your willingness to share – not just the content, but also the time it took just to reply (and so quickly!)!  Really, thanks!

Darren R.

Sharechurch is such a valuable resource to us all.  I find that I access it first on many topics just to begin my research, or to confirm if we are on the right track on a number of topics.  Thank you and COR for providing this to us all.
