Adam Hamilton

Adam is the founding pastor of Church of the Resurrection. He grew up in the Kansas City area, earned a Bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Ministry from Oral Roberts University and a Master of Divinity degree from Southern Methodist University. He is the author of numerous books, served as a presidential appointee in the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, and frequently speaks on leadership across the U.S.

Scott Chrostek

Scott joined the Resurrection staff team in 2009 to launch the Downtown location, which he led for 12 years. While there he also served as Executive Director of Regional Campuses and is now Executive Director of Ministries and Programs at all Resurrection locations. Before life in the church, Scott spent five years working in the field of investments. He completed his Master of Divinity degree at Duke Divinity School and is active as a coach and mentor to church planters across the country.

Robert Johnson

Robert has been serving as the Location Pastor for Resurrection – Leawood and will soon lead the launch of Resurrection’s newest location in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. He is a dedicated pastor with over 25 years of leadership experience in diverse ministry settings, including rural, urban, and cross-cultural contexts. He is known for his work in leadership development, evangelism, preaching, community service and advocating for social, economic, and climate justice. He holds a psychology degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Master of Divinity from Perkins School of Theology.

Yvonne Gentile

Yvonne worked in an executive leadership capacity in retail, where she discovered the power of radical hospitality. She is co-author of five books, all published by Abingdon Press – Serving from the Heart: Finding Your Gifts and Talents for Service; Leadership from the Heart: Learning to Lead with Love & Skill; Leadership Essentials: Practical Tools for Leading in the Church; The Art of Hospitality: A Practical Guide for a Ministry of Radical Welcome; and The Greeter and Usher Handbook. Since joining the Resurrection staff in 2011, she has served in multiple roles and is currently the Guest Experience & ShareChurch Lead Director.

Debi Nixon

Debi serves as Resurrection’s Executive Director of Donor Development, overseeing donor relations across all the church’s locations, as well as the Resurrection Foundation. She is passionate about helping others experience the radical love of Jesus through hospitality and about helping others steward their resources and gifts for greatest kingdom impact. She is the author of CATCH: A Churchwide Program for Invitational Evangelism and co-author of The Art of Hospitality: A Practical Guide for a Ministry of Radical Welcome.

Anne Gatobu

Anne oversees care across all of Resurrection’s locations as Executive Director of Care & Mental Wellness. Before joining the staff at Resurrection, she served as Kansas City District Superintendent for three years. In that role, she played a pivotal part in the launch of Resurrection Overland Park and the launch of Ushindi United Methodist Church, a mission to Congolese Refugees. She also helped launch a new United Methodist ministry in Kansas City, Kansas – The Hub. She earned a doctorate in psychology and religion, and master’s degrees in pastoral counseling and divinity, all from the University of Denver and Iliff School of Theology. Gatobu served as dean of practical theology at Asbury Theological Seminary, where she was also associate professor of pastoral care and counseling. She has written/edited three books on pastoral care, and was the founder and CEO of Flourishing Springs, a ministry of self-care, coaching and creativity.

We do not provide transportation. The easiest mode of transportation, once you arrive in KC, will be a rental car or ride sharing service like Uber or Lyft.

You may cancel at any time through April 4. Cancellations through April 4 are subject to a $30 cancellation fee. We are unable to refund any registration fees after April 4, 2025. Please understand that by this date we have prepared for your arrival with printed materials, catering and other provisions. You may transfer your registration to another person at any time. No. While children are a high priority at Resurrection, this is an adult training event and childcare is not available. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) will be available for full participation. Blank certificates will be available for pick up at the Information Booth during the event. Certificates are issued by Resurrection, A United Methodist Church, and they are accepted for United Methodist clergy and full-time local pastors.  

Yes. However, we encourage you to attend the entire event. There are no reduced registration rates for partial attendance.

Yes! Leading Beyond the Walls is designed to strengthen churches by strengthening their pastoral leaders. Such an important event comes with exposure and recognition for the sponsors who have helped make it happen. Our sponsor registration site (coming soon) provides a detailed description of the benefits and allows you to sign on immediately. Sponsorships are available on a first come, first served basis, and the sponsorship fee is payable by credit card or check, for your convenience.
