  • Thy Kingdom Come
    Thy Kingdom Come

It isn't enough for a Rabbi (teacher) like Jesus, or any other Rabbi for that matter, to merely tell his students that it is important to pray. A Rabbi worth being called "Rabbi" and, therefore followed closely by his or her students, must model for them how to pray. This is what Jesus models for us in what the Christian community commonly calls The Lord's Prayer, found in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:1-4.

In this Resource, you will find a participant’s guide and leader's guide for the 6-week curriculum focused primarily on the Gospel of Matthew's version of The Lord's Prayer for use with a small group or mid-week discipleship classes. This curriculum was designed to be a complementary piece to use with a 6-week sermon series in August-September 2018 called Prayer: As Jesus Taught Us preached by Pastor Adam Hamilton at Church of the Resurrection, but may be used as a stand-alone curriculum as well.

Our theme, Jesus & Me, was based on the books Wonder, Auggie & Me and 365 Days of Wonder written by R.J. Palacio.  If you haven’t had a chance to read them, we encourage you to do so!  She has also written a book for younger readers titled We’re All Wonders.  These books inspired a move to Choose Kind, teaching empathy, compassion and acceptance.  In the story, the children learn from a favorite teacher about precepts (rules for very important things, mottos, famous quotes and things to help motivate and guide us).  We decided to take the week of VBC to teach our kids three precepts:

    Precept 1:
You should treat people in the same way that you want people to treat you.  Matthew 7:12

    Precept 2:
“I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”  Psalm 139:14

    Precept 3:
Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as you ever can.

  • Volunteer Management Practices
    Volunteer Management Practices

The Volunteer Management Practices (VMP) Resource presents a framework of four practices critical for those who desire to lead/manage volunteers successfully. Intentional focus on these four practices – invite, connect, equip, and sustain – will prepare volunteers to have maximum impact in their service role in an engaging and fulfilling way. The VMP resources include a full-color chart that defines and provides examples of each of the four essential practices for leading volunteers in a healthy and sustainable manner, and four videos – one for each of the practices, in which ministry leaders at Church of the Resurrection describe real-life examples of how they live into that particular practice. These resources are excellent for use in training new leaders of volunteers, as skill refreshers for more experienced leaders, or as a reference for leaders who need a brush-up in a particular area.
